DMA Council Members have very busy day jobs yet find time to give back by sharing their knowledge and experience with others in the industry. They are dedicated thought leadership groups that establish best practices and offer networking and educational opportunities within a specialty area both online and offline.

Extremely interactive, all the council events below are at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center unless otherwise noted. Most are included in your conference registration, however, some associated with meals have a nominal fee. Register today!

Lori Schafer is Executive Advisor, Retail at SAS Institute. She serves on the board of directors of several public and private retail and retail technology companies as well as the National Retail Federation. She recently co-authored the book Branded! How Retailers Engage Consumers with Social Media & Mobility (see below). Schafer,an entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in retail and consumer-packaged goods technology, began her career with Procter & Gamble. She was CEO of Marketmax, Inc., a retail analytics software company, from 1996 to 2003,prior to its acquisition by SAS. In 2003, she became Vice President, SAS Global Retail and spearheaded the company's retail practice. In 2008, she assumed her current position as Executive Advisor, Retail Specialties. Author - BRANDED! Retail, Retail Technology, Analytics, Social Media, Mobile applications. Experience in start-up to small to large companies, CEO of technology companies, start-ups, entrepreneur. 

Bernie Brennan is a consultant and investor in retail-related technology. He has served in a number of roles over thirty years in the retail industry, with seventeen of them as Chairman and CEO of Montgomery Ward, Sav-A-Stop Inc., and Household Merchandising. Brennan is a former Chairman of the National Retail Federation and earned the Gold Medal Award as Retailer of the Year.

USPS Network Optimization Overview

David Williams, Vice President of Network Operations USPS HQ, will discuss the realignment of the postal mail processing network estimated to be completed end of calendar year 2012. Rightsizing of the network is only one of many strategies the USPS has employed in efforts to reduce costs and improve efficiency. George S. Isaacson is a senior partner and represents direct marketers and electronic merchants throughout the United States in connection with state sales, use and income tax matters, as well as regulatory issues. He is tax counsel to the Direct Marketing Association and has represented the DMA in the filing of amicus curiae briefs in state and federal courts throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court. He has also represented the DMA in negotiations with state governors to simplify and standardize state sales/use tax systems and was DMA's representative on the Steering Committee for the National Tax Association's Project on Taxation of Electronic Commerce.

Leveraging the Power of Social Media via Analytics” - According to a recent eMarketer study, 80% of U.S. businesses with 100 or more employees will use social media marketing this year. In this session, we will address many of the questions that marketers attempting to harness the full potential of this channel via analytics are grappling with: What are the different types of analytics, data sources, predictors, and dependent variables that can be used within the social space?
